ABOUT US

Mission

The Kuvina Leadership Initiative was founded in 2016 in Lusaka, Zambia with the mission to empower vulnerable women and adolescent girls living in poverty to transform their lives by providing them with social, financial, and health knowledge, skills and tools that can raise their self-esteem and well-being, thereby improving gender equality in Zambian society.

Objectives

The Kuvina Leadership Initiative aims at fostering women and adolescent girls’ leadership skills through dance exercise and artistic expression. In support of this goal, the programme would pursue the following objectives:

(i) to enhance the ability of women and adolescent girls to create safe environments;

(ii) to increase the capacity of women and adolescent girls to challenge gender norms and participate in decision making processes within their communities;

(iii) to increase knowledge of gender based violence and healthy lifestyle habits including those that pertain to sexual and reproductive health and those that raise physical and emotional well-being; and

 (iv) to increase leadership capabilities, financial literacy and money management skills.

CAMP Description

Kuvina utilizes dance fitness as a tool for wellness, self-confidence, team building, and stress relief, combined with individualized mentorship and a series of coaching workshops on topics such as gender-based violence, thought leadership, community relationship building, communication and networking, and wellness habits and techniques that foster reaffirming positive mind sets and a sense of self-identity.

This combination provides the building blocks for creating new perspectives that can bring about social change in areas such as sexual reproductive health, civic engagement and gender equality.
